{"id":442,"date":"2011-08-31T17:41:04","date_gmt":"2011-08-31T22:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/?p=442"},"modified":"2020-09-14T14:57:15","modified_gmt":"2020-09-14T19:57:15","slug":"no-thick-billed-vireo-in-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/?p=442","title":{"rendered":"No Thick-billed Vireo in Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In mid-August Barbara and I went to Miami to try to find the ABA Code 4 Thick-billed Vireo that had been seen during the prior week at the Mattheson Hammock State Park.&nbsp; We tried hard, but the bird never showed up.&nbsp; Apparently it had moved on to other locations before we arrived.&nbsp; I also wanted to locate White-winged Parakeets.&nbsp; This bird, apparently quite common in the Miami area, has been my Florida&nbsp;nemesis, and it still is.&nbsp; No luck.&nbsp; In fact we didn&#8217;t see very many of the Parrot family of any kind.&nbsp; Maybe we were just unlucky.&nbsp; At Baptist Hospital, Barbara did locate a <strong>strange white duck<\/strong>.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t think it is on the ABA List.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/duck-resize.jpg\" alt=\"duck-resize\"><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Muscovy<\/strong> was obviously embarrased by the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/muskovy-resize.jpg\" alt=\"muskovy-resize\"><\/p>\n<p>The photographic opportunities were not dampened by the lack of new birds.&nbsp; Among the strange and wonderful creatures were:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cuban Brown Basilisk Lizards<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/brown-basilisk-lizard-resize.jpg\" alt=\"brown-basilisk-lizard-resize\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown Anoles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/brown-anole-resize.jpg\" alt=\"brown-anole-resize\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Knight&nbsp;Anoles<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/knight-anole-resize.jpg\" alt=\"knight-anole-resize\"><\/p>\n<p><strong>Green Iguanas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/green-iguana-resize.jpg\" alt=\"green-iguana-resize\"><\/p>\n<p>and lots of butterflies and&nbsp;<strong>spiders spinning webs<\/strong>.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/emptynestbirder.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/2011-june-august\/spider-resize.jpg\" alt=\"spider-resize\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In mid-August Barbara and I went to Miami to try to find the ABA Code 4 Thick-billed Vireo that had been seen during the prior week at the Mattheson Hammock State Park.&nbsp;
